Incorporated in 1891 as a village within the Town of Mamaroneck, Larchmont quickly attracted visitors and residents from the realms of society, commerce and the theater, a trend that continues today. It is comprised of an incorporated village of approximately one square mile, and an unicorporated area of two and a half miles. Population of both areas, as well as the Village of Mamaroneck, is about 18,000 in total.
The Mamaroneck Union Free School District serves both Larchmont and Mamaroneck and is considered one of the finest school districts in the country. Mamaroneck High School was named one of Newsweek Magazine’s 100 Best High Schools in the United States.
The Larchmont Harbor provides deep-water mooring for pleasure crafts of all sizes. Nearby Manor Beach offers swimming and sunning, complete with bathhouses and lifeguard on-site. Parks and playgrounds are scattered throughout Larchmont. Nature lovers can hike through three forest sanctuaries and trails at the Larchmont Reservoir.
